Clovis convulsed and gyrated and I thought he was about to levitate when he stopped. Stillness overtook him like he was a streaming video trying to buffer. I hate that when it happens. After several seconds of annoying non-motion, I slugged his shoulder. Clovis gasped for an unnecessarily long time so I slugged his other shoulder. Performative bullshit like that gets on my last nerve. The clientele of The Bent Antenna focused their attention on Clovis.

“What is this I’m seeing? A dog? No.” Clovis’s voice was an awestruck whisper. More performative bullshit. “A Herpezoid Junkcruiser? Yes. Yes, that’s it. A Herpezoid Junkcruiser. What do I see now? Who is that? Two Herpezoids. Vrex. Gropl.  You must find this Junkcruiser and meet it where it intends to be.”

“What Junkcruiser? What’s it called?” I asked. Between Clovis’s overwrought performance and the added indignity of Herpezoids, I was pissed.

“You seek The Tempting Fate. Find it and there your treasure shall liiiiiiiie.” Letting that last word drone on was the cherry on Clovis’s overacting sundae.

After letting out a long sigh, a satisfied grin spread across his weathered face.

“Now, THAT felt good,” he said. “I need a smoke now. Got any Mongalisonian tobacco on you?”

“You’re making me uncomfortable.” I tossed a bag of the weed on the bar. “Any chance that eye can tell me where The Tempting Fate is or will be?”

“It’s like sex,” he said. “When it’s done, I need a nap before going another round.”
