Oh, God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
Edgar Allan Poe, A Dream Within A Dream
Another jolt from Glen’s taser baton convulsed the man’s body. He lay on the floor struggling for composure and coherence, convinced he was now in the midst of a kamikaze mission. I may die tonight, he thought, but I’ll not die alone. He raised the hand that held his weapon and unleashed a barrage of blue energy balls into the Herpezoid Glen called Marshall. The blows riddled Marshall’s torso with holes and green gunk squirted forth. Glen raised the baton and once more sent volts of electricity into the man’s back, causing him to cry out and writhe in searing pain.
Glen dropped the taser. He stood over the man in his Herpezoid form. Yellow eyes glowing. Sharp teeth bared. A claw drawn back ready to strike with razor-like talons. The claw came down toward the man’s torso but was interrupted by electric currents produced by the baton Spencer dropped when he fled. The man’s eyes were blurred with tears but he was able to make out that Spencer had returned. He continuously released jolts into the man’s assailant. Glen spun with the same kind of awful his Marshall had produced earlier.
“Much appreciated,” the man said to Spencer. “Now, you should run again.”
The man unloaded five shots into Marshall's head as Spencer fled, Glen on his heels.
