4. "Still Into You," Paramore (2013)
November 18th of this year marked 30 years of marriage for me and my wife. The first song that comes to mind when I think of us is "Eternal Flame," by The Bangles because that was our wedding song. "Lady in Red," by Chris DeBurgh definitely reminds me of her because she wore a red dress to our first formal dance, a theater banquet in 1987. I've put together several mix tapes and playlists over the years for Sandy. I once made one of mostly tender ballads and she provided me with some feedback:
"Don't get me wrong. I like this, but I want our relationship to be fun, too. Where are the fun songs that remind you of me?"
So, over th eyears, I've tried to do just that. So, when Paramore released "Still Into You" in 2013, I knew I had found the perfect song for our marriage. The song is bouncy, fun, sweet, and energetic. Plus, it recognizes the ups and downs in a commited, long-term relationship. Our years together have been far from perfect and there are some things I wish I had done differently, but we've come through it all stronger than ever. The chorus pretty much sums it up:
I should be over all the butterflies
I'm into you, I'm into you
And baby even on our worst nights
I'm into you, I'm into you
Let 'em wonder how we got this far
'Cuz I don't need to wonder at all
After all this time
I'm still into you
Over 30 years together and we're still into each other.
