Kilroy Owns the Night: Day 18 (Catalyst)

Before me stood a man I recognized but not from the Gallowglass Transfer Station or Planet Lloyd but from Earth. He was my boss from my old job back on Earth when I guarded a portal in my hometown. It’s a long story. Someone should write a book about it. But now here he stood, a laser blaster pointed at me and a stupid lollipop sticking out of his stupid mouth which was attached to his stupid bald head.
“Max Gentry,” I sneered. “I thought you were dead.”
“The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated, “ he sneered back. “I changed my name. I go by Tyran Gexm now. Do you get it?”
“Get what?”
“My new name.” He took the stupid lollipop out of his stupid mouth. “It’s an anagram for my old name.”
“Anagrams are lame,” I said. “You’re lame. Your lollipop is lame. Probably not even a cool flavor like watermelon or sour apple.”
“Butterscotch, actually.”
“See? Lame.” I tried to use this conversation as distraction so I could reach for my weapon but the dipshit with an anagram for a name was on to me.
“Don’t.” He raised his blaster a little higher. “Just get me the Encyclopedia.”
“Get it yourself, anagram boy.”
He smiled. “If there is one thing middle management taught me, it’s you let others do the work for you while you take the credit. Now, the Encyclopedia.”
I needed a catalyst for Max to monologue while I plotted my next move.
