Kilroy Was Here: Day 17 (Whirlpool)

The thing to know about Junkcrusiers is Herpezoids build them out of scavenged and stolen parts. Junkcruisers are the Frankenstein’s monster of spacecraft. Notice I said the monster and not Frankenstein because I know Frankenstein was the doctor, not the creation. But, also, yes, I would agree that Dr. Frankenstein is the true monster of Mary Shelley’s seminal tale of hubris run amuck. I know these things because I am surprisingly learned.
Junkcruisers, though, are monstrosities built by monsters that somehow travel in space in spite of their unseemly appearance. A typical Junkcruiser can consist of parts stolen from other spacecraft, a salvage yard, a tractor supply store, or a Whirlpool refrigerator. Think of a spaceship drawn by a kindergartener with their non-writing hand. Something that was then colored by said kindergartener, but they didn’t stay within the lines. Now imagine that has abstract creation in three-dimension real life to be mocked and ridiculed. Voila! Junkcruiser!

The Tempting Fate was attached to a power station for a fill-up. It was a little bigger than my Dodge A-100 but way more clunky and less aerodynamic. It’s the kind of ship a non-Herpezoid would own only because they lost a bet. I glanced around to make sure no one was looking but remembered I was at Gallowglass where no one gives a shit you exist. I walked up to the side where the entrance door was like I owned the sumbitch. A voice stopped me.
“Step away from the Junkcruiser, human.”
